About Brain Fit

Improving lives through meaningful, evidence-based psychological services.

Brain Fit, LLC is a Phoenix-based behavioral health consulting and clinical services firm. We bring together psychological assessment, evidence-based treatment, workforce training, and federal contracting infrastructure under one accountable clinical structure — directed by two licensed clinical psychologists with decades of combined practice.

From cognitive rehabilitation to veteran-centered work.

Founded in 2015, Brain Fit began with a simple idea: to improve lives through meaningful, evidence-based psychological services. While our early work focused on cognitive rehabilitation, our commitment to high-quality assessment and clinical integrity led us into a new and meaningful direction — supporting veterans through Compensation & Pension (C&P) evaluations. As the grandson of a veteran, this work holds personal significance and reflects our commitment to serving communities with respect, integrity, and clinical excellence.

Over time, Brain Fit has grown into a national network, partnering with professionals across psychology, general medicine, dentistry, audiology, and optometry. We support early-career clinicians, sustain established practices, and create opportunities for providers seeking to expand their impact through structured, mission-driven work.

As practicing clinicians ourselves, we understand the rigor required to earn credentials, maintain ethical practice, and meet the highest professional standards. These values guide every relationship we build — with veterans, with provider partners, with healthcare systems, and with the federal and state agencies we serve.

That clinical orientation is the through-line. Whether the work is a C&P evaluation, a state-level program design, a psychological assessment, a residential treatment admission, or the supervision of a new clinician, the standard does not change.

Two clinical psychologists. One shared practice.

Brain Fit is co-owned and clinically co-led by two licensed clinical psychologists who together oversee every Brain Fit engagement and the affiliated entities that support it.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist 15+ years Phoenix, AZ

Dr. Shelton is the founding clinician and managing director of Brain Fit, LLC. His clinical practice spans more than fifteen years of psychological assessment, trauma-informed treatment, federal disability evaluation, and workforce training across both private and public-sector settings.

For more than a decade, Dr. Shelton has provided full-time Social Security Administration consultative examinations under federal funding through state Disability Determination Services — work methodologically parallel to VA C&P evaluation. That decade of disciplined, high-volume disability evaluation is the foundation Brain Fit's federal capability rests on today.

The values that guide every relationship we build.

As practicing clinicians ourselves, we understand the rigor required to earn credentials, maintain ethical practice, and meet the highest professional standards. Three commitments shape every Brain Fit engagement.

01
Respect.
Every veteran, patient, partner, and provider is met with the same standard of care and consideration — whether they are sitting for a C&P interview, entering treatment, or joining the network.
02
Integrity.
Evaluations and reports are anchored in validated instruments, structured clinical reasoning, and an audit-grade documentation trail. Federal-grade accountability across every engagement, federal or otherwise.
03
Clinical excellence.
Trauma-informed, evidence-based, recovery-oriented — not as marketing language, but as the working rules of a practice run by clinicians who still see patients.

One clinical group. Three accountable entities.

Brain Fit doesn't operate as a referral broker. The principals who own and direct Brain Fit are the same clinicians who own, direct, or actively practice within each affiliated entity — so the same clinical standard applies across the network end-to-end.

What partners and providers ask us.

Brain Fit is co-owned and clinically co-led by two licensed clinical psychologists — Dr. Jonathan Shelton (Co-Owner & Managing Director) and Dr. An Nguyen (Co-Owner & Clinical Director) — who together oversee every engagement and the affiliated entities that support it.

Each principal has provided more than a decade of full-time Social Security Administration consultative examinations under federal funding through state Disability Determination Services — work methodologically parallel to VA Compensation & Pension evaluation. That high-volume disability evaluation experience is the foundation of Brain Fit's federal capability.

Brain Fit operates as one clinical group across three accountable entities: Brain Fit, LLC (prime contractor and consulting core), Trinity Tree, LLC (assessment and training), and Desert Recovery Centers (Joint Commission Gold Seal-accredited treatment partner). The same clinicians own or direct each entity, so one clinical standard applies end-to-end.

Yes. Brain Fit is active on SAM.gov, in pursuit of a GSA MAS, and HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliant across every engagement.
